Ferdinand Magellan
Magellan studied at Queen Leonora's School of Pages in Lisbon and some of his subjects helped him as an explorer - like mapmaking, astronomy, and navigation.

Magellan joined the Portuguese navy and sailed to Africa and even the Far East. He was also involved in several naval battles, most notably The Battle of Diu where the Portuguese navy defeated the Egyptian navy. |
